Gorgeous little Siren Yan contacted us and we almost felt guilty to not have known of her before!!! Well let's not waste any more time in learning more about the Albino Asian!
1) What can you tell us about your ethnic background? Are you really a native New Yorker?
I come from a Chinese background. I was born in Hong Kong and raised in NYC. I wouldn't say I am from Hong Kong but New York simply because I was just born in Hong Kong but never lived there.
2) How and when did you started as a model? Was it more standard work and did you actually go straight ahead to more alternative projects?
I started modeling professionally in May 2009 but my first photoshoot was back in 2008. I started as a glamour model but realized that alternative modeling was just as fun especially since I love wearing clothing that you wouldn't normally wear on a daily basis. haha
3) Who would you consider your biggest inspiration when you began in this business? Any favorite artists, photographers, models, etc.?
My biggest inspiration were all the boys with the pretty faces and hair. Yup, my inspirations were boys. I originally wanted to be a fashion model but standing at no more than 5'2", it was impossible so I focused on my other features like my face and my hair and my body. This was how some boys inspire me because some try so hard with their looks to attract the attention of girls and I do the same except I do it for boys/men. :)
Off the top of my head, my favorite artists are Tetsuya Nomura, Hajime Sorayama and Ayami Kojima. My favorite photographers are too many to list but Araki is definitely one of them as well as David LaChapelle. My favorite models are Jean Mauvais, Chris Lauchland Brown, Shane Brew, and Stephan Haurholm to name a few--- all of which were inspirations of mine.
4) Albino Asian, eh? This describes you very well! What do you enjoy the most being an Oriental girl with almost white hair? :D
hahaha What I enjoy in being "albino" is that I can stand out in a crowd and get people's attention when I walk the street. Other Asian girls would tell me that it looks horrible but I am happy with it so I don't mind them. I am also going against what nature intended of me but it's so much fun that I plan to keep it forever.
5) You seem very well at ease doing your own makeup; is this a skill that you studied for or are you self-taught?
This was a skill that I acquired when I was very young. I always wanted to be pretty and beautiful so I experimented with different kinds of makeup until I found what looked best on me. That is why I prefer to do my own makeup.
6) For someone who has been doing this for… what, more than a year? you already display quite an amazing portfoiio. What future themes are you planning to explore soon?
hahaha Thank you very much but I've only done this for just a year. No more. My portfolio is only the beginning. I plan to do more extreme alternative themes which I haven't explored yet like Steampunk, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Military. Those themes has been around but I still want to make it my own which is what I have to figure out but in time. :)
7) Concerning the fetish scene, is this something that attracts you on a professional or even personal level? Do you attend fetish parties & events, for example?
In regards to the fetish scene I would have to say that it attracts me more on a professional level. I am not into the BDSM scene yet I am fascinated with the beauty of certain fetishes like latex and heels. I would say those are my fetishes because it allows me to play the part of the beautiful and sexy and that is very important to me on a personal level.
8) What can you tell us about your website and the fact that you’re working on “building some kind of empire”…? :D
hahah My website is only a portfolio site for now. Ummm... you will have to wait and see what kind of an empire I will be building ;)
9) Would you ever be interested in video/film work? And what kind of characters? (You see, we have this storyline involving all these female vampires…!!!)
I have always wanted to be in a music video. Film is something I might want to experiment in. But if I had a choice to be any character in a vampire movie, I would want to be the succubus or the super sexy vampire. hahah
10) There’s a big modeling talent pool in NYC… how do you manage to stay on top of the, shall we say, competition?
Well, I try to stay on top by being different yet myself. Everybody's style comes from somewhere but it is important to "tweak" it into your own. I stay true to my interests yet I am willing to experiment with different styles.
11) What’s your own personal fashion weakness (shoes, corsets, etc.)?
Shoes is my number one weakness. Lingerie and latex tie second.
12) Do you get the chance to travel a lot? Any chance in welcoming you in Montreal soon? (Did we mention our Vampires project? LOL)
I haven't been traveling yet. I hope to do it soon because I think every serious model should but you can always come to New York, right?
