Our first guest from South Africa and we couldn't find a more talented,
beautiful & nice individual to represent a part of the world
that
is sometimes too unknown to us... read on.
1) So how did a nice girl like you get involved in that kind of alternative photo business?
I was enrolled in a deportment and modeling school at age 13. I worked as a commercial runway model for many years but quit modeling to study drama when I didn’t grow tall enough to land the paying assignments. Years later, whilst dabbling in the music industry, I met international Dark Arts model / Horror actress Kindra Ravenmoon online. I am a big fan of her work and she encouraged and convinced me to try out alternative modeling. I did a shoot and the result was very positive. Shortly after bookings came pouring in and I found myself in high demand.
2). Do you prefer doing glam stuff or even more gory projects?
I prefer to be diverse and not label myself to a specific genre. However, if given the choice, I would rather go with gore.
3) Do you come up with your own make-up styles yourself? And do we also understand that you design gothic clothing and accessories?
I generally do my own hair, make-up and styling. There are cases where MUA’s are used for special assignments though. I am about to launch my clothing / accessory range called “SinWear”. It will be directed at the Goth / Metal / Fetish market and available online from Path of Sin. I am planning a big event for the official launch in Cape Town during November.
4) You seem to have a personal trademark with the way you use your eyes in your photowork. Very seductive and sometimes spooky! What do you enjoy most in portrayed all these far-out characters?
I enjoy combining my skill as an onstage actress with modeling by using my eyes and facial expressions more than general posing. I study each character that I portray in depth and it’s very important to me that the photographer and fan sees that character the way I see and feel her / it from inside.
5) What can you tell us about the fetish scene in South Africa? Are there fetish events and the like actually being held?
The South African fetish scene is bigger than ever and keeps growing. There are a number of events held across the country and we have an annual Sexpo in each province. Path of Sin products are very big sellers at those events. I am also aware of a number of sexcult groups in Johannesburg and Cape Town, one of which I will be giving a “Bondage for Beginners” presentation at soon. Path of Sin will be the product sponsor for that particular event as well. And recently I visited the club “Kink” in Cape Town and was very impressed with their lingerie and sex toy store on their top floor. I will definitely be hanging out there more in future.
6) Are you planning to write more poetry soon?
I am sitting on a few poems that I just haven’t had the time to complete. Things have been really hectic the past few months with my relocation to another province, keeping up with shoots that were booked in advance and preparing stock for the SinWear launch. I can’t say when I’ll be able to complete them, I never rush my writing. It will happen whenever it happens. Unfortunately it’s not my main priority right now.
7) What can you tell us about Path of Sin?
Path of Sin is South Africa’s leading online bondage store. Our leather products are of highest quality, durability and strength. Our range includes anything from harnesses, cuffs, collars, gauntlets, floggers, crops and other bondage items to the more decorative “SinWear” products coming soon, which will offer a range of tops, corset belts, mini tophats, boot covers and some more Cyber Goth orientated items. We are also able to make custom items according to customer specifications. Path of Sin products are for sale in various stores in Cape Town and we have a large online based clientele.
8) Can we dare ask what are your favourite horror films?
I don’t have specific favourite films, but rather favourite directors. They are George A. Romero, Peter Jackson, Tobe Hooper, Sam Raimi, Rob Zombi and Wes Craven. I also have a weakness for classic Hammer Horror films with actors Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Peter Cushing, Boris Karloff and Vincent Price.
9) Is there a thin line between your modeling personality and your own private life? Do you like to play out in your intimate relationships?
SinWhore and Alta share a body and a passion for darkness, but not a personality. With her drunken, loud, psychotic behaviour and sick sense of humour, SinWhore is definately the Dark Half. Alta is a very private, domestic and even antisocial person. From previous experiences I have learnt not to let SinWhore make decisions or get involved with intimate relationships. I end up getting stuck with the rubbish she drags into our life and then having to dispose of it. I admire her confidence, although I’m the creative talent behind her, but in general, we’re not the best of friends. Andre (my fiancé) seems to be getting along with her better than me, but does keep her on a leash (literally) when he goes out with her. She always gets drunk and lands me in some sort of trouble. Luckily I’ve learnt to control her to a certain extent and I only let her out when she’s needed nowadays.
10) Where do you see your career going in about 10 years from now? What are your long-range plans?
I recently started a model-group for experienced South African alternative models called “Path of Sin Models S.A.” They will be the stars of my upcoming SinWear launch, modeling all the new products. I would like to see this grow into a proper alternative modeling agency. And I am currently in the process of having some body modifications done and doing certain training. I do very few modeling assignments at the moment since I need to take long stretches off to accommodate my healing processes. Soon as I reach my goal I will make a new debut with a new look, SinWhore’s “NewModel Whore” project. Guaranteed to surprise, shock and thrill the wickedest of audiences.
11) Did you have the chance to travel a lot for your work? Any chance in seeing you in Canada in the future?
I traveled a lot between provinces in my own country, which is an opportunity I would never have had, had it not been for modeling. I have honestly never been abroad, even though many opportunities have arrived to be in music videos and the like. I was never financially capable of going since and at the rate of traveling costs nobody’s been able to “import” me either. Life is very expensive in South Africa and I’ve made peace with the fact that I will never be able to live my career’s full potential as long as I remain here. I love my country, culture and people enough to choose them above fame and fortune. I am more than happy with my international career being online only. As for visiting Canada, I would LOVE to someday. Besides, I’ve never touched real snow!
