1) Hi Sarah! Can you give us some info on your unique ethnical background?
I am pretty much a mutt, I am mixed with tons of stuff. Let's see, I'm half Jamaican, a quarter Romanian, Scotch, Dutch, English, Irish, Spanish, and Jewish. (I might be forgetting one, but it's a lot to remember lol).
2) So when and why did you became interested in modeling? And why in more alternative themes?
Well I first thought about it when I was asked to model for a calendar for a gamer group at Ohayocon (super amazing anime convention). After that I realized I loved modeling, and being in front of the camera just felt natural. I've always been a bit alt, with my love of cosplay and more eccentric fashion choices. Modeling just gave me an outlet to really be myself.
3) So from where does the modeling name Sarah Slaykitty came from, anyway?
It's kinda a long story... Sarah was the name I always wished my mom would have named me. It's a family name and I've always loved it. As for Slaykitty I've had that nickname since I was 12. See I was a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I was younger, and when I went into chat rooms it seemed like all the good names where taken, so I figured after a while that I needed to come up with something unique. I took my love for the show and combined it with my love for cats (they are my favorite animal), and came up with Slaykitty. After a while all my friends started calling me by it, and it was more well-known then my real name, so when I started modeling it was a natural choice for my alias.
4) What would be your last favorite books that you read these days?
I love to read, I'm a big history buff. So when I have free time I usually read through history books and books on mythology. But if I'm not really in the bookworm mood I'll pick up a comic book or a manga.
5) So you’re a singer also, aren’t you? Can you tell us about your range and what inspires you most musically?
Well I love to sing, I have been singing all my life. Music is one of my greatest passions. :) I discovered choir in the second grade, and took it all the way threw my freshman year of high school. I'm a soprano, but I was also taught to sing alto as well. I love music of all genres, from classical, to pop, and from metal to reggae. If it has words I will sing them. Lol As for what inspires me it think it's the rhythm, it carries me away. Music has got to be my most favorite thing in the world. I think a world without music would be a terribly sad and boring place to live.
6) Being a well-curved model and working mostly in the alternative scene, do you find that this is a “double challenge”? What is your take on all these skinny things still working on mainstream runways around the world?
Well I honestly think there is room for all types of people in the modeling world, not just the super tall and skinny. The best part of modeling for me is knowing I'm completely unique, it's good to feels that even if I never walk the runways of Paris or Milan, I can still make a difference, and get my face out there. Some of the best days I've had have been when I open my email, and see messages from other women that praise me for being brave enough to be different. That truly is the best feeing in the world: the feeling that by just doing what I love, I can encourage other girls to feel comfortable being themselves.
7) Since you’re into cosplay, what kind of costumes really gets your inspiration juices boiling?
Oh that's a tough one! I love all types of anime, and the costumes can be the best part. I love wearing wigs and very out there styles, and having the chance to pretend to be someone else for a few hours. I think my favorite types of costumes, the ones that really inspire me, are ones from character that are the most different from me in real life. Wether it be soft cute lolita girls, or the bitchy villian. I just love playing the part! But if I had my pick of the one character I would like to cosplay most I think it would be Rayne (from the Blood Rayne video games), she is cold and witty, but sexy in that she could kill you in any kind of way. Lol
8) Are we wrong in guessing that you did a photoshoot with your boyfriend?
Nope you are 100% right. I have modeled with my boyfriend quite a few times. I love the fact that with him I can explore more sexier shots, because the feelings are already there. With him, there is no akwardness, as with models that I may be meeting for the first time, no need to break the ice. We can just get right down to work. ;)
9) Tell us a bit how you came to be a fan of manga and martial arts?
Well my mother has always been a very worldly person, and she raised me to be the same. So from a young age I was watching martial arts films, and instead of normal cartoons I would watch anime. As I got older I found out about manga, and read a lot of it (and I mean a lot). And a few years ago I figured it was time to try my hand at learning karate. My mom was very supportive, and I attended class for two years, until I started college and studying took up all my free time. My mom still wish I would get back into martial arts, maybe if I can find a good local school I will....
10) Would you ever be interested in edgier themes (i.e. fetish, bondage, etc.)?
I am a very open person, and I love pushing the envelope. I think I would be open to trying some light fetish work and bondage later on. I would love to have a chance to shoot in some fetish clothing, like latex dresses, or PVC outfits.
11) So what do you like to do when it’s time to relax?
Well when I relax I like simple things, like reading, or going shopping, but nothing beats a nice swim, or a warm bubble bath. I can't help it I'm a Pisces, I love water! Lol
12) Did you get to travel a lot for your photo work? Any chance of welcoming you in Montreal soon? :D
I have traveled all over Michigan and some of Ohio for shoots, but I haven't gone much farther yet. It's only a matter of time though, I love seeing new places, traveling is one of my all time favorite things to do.
