Madeleine is a Canadian model with a very special stage act and attitude, so that someone wisely named her the Janice Dickinson of Heavy Metal! Read on below...
1) So how does a girl from Edmonton got started as a fetish model/performer? Has this choice caused turmoil and/or puzzlement with your family/friends?
I had always been inspired by models like Masuimi Max and Dita Von Teese when I was younger but I originallly wanted to be a photographer. I was in college and the final project before I graduated was a self-portrait and I had so much fun with it I never pursued photography after and went straight into modeling.
As for performing, I have always been a very eccentric personality and I love attention so after a certain amount of time modeling the transition seemed natural.
As for conflictions, I have lost some friends because they do not agree with what I'm doing and I have also lost touch with many people because of my busy schedule, but I have made many new friends as well and my family support me all the way.
2) Are there individuals that you would say inspired (and still inspires) you in your work?
When I started stripping, I was living in Victoria and I worked at one of the clubs there and met a girl named Cyd Harlow. She has forever changed my life. Her shows were very dark and some were even shocking patrons. She was aggressive and graceful in a way I had never seen before. I haven't seen or heard from her since that week that we worked together but she has had the biggest influence on my career. I would really love to cross paths with her again someday.
3) What in your estimate is the best quality that a photographer can have when working on a shoot?
I think the best quality is someone who isn't too controlling and is willing to experiment. I can't stand when photographers try and direct every pose, it kills the mood. Most great models know their angles and work best when they can flow like a dancer from pose to pose.
4) What IS that thing about wearing latex that all the models appreciate?
Latex is the luxury of the fetish world. I think it's like wearing silk or something. It's so different and special and it fits like nothing else can to your body. It has a certain smell and sensation. I feel very powerful wearing it. It's different for everyone but that's my experience with it.
5) OK your stage performance seem to include fire and yourself wearing very little… can you describe that act? And do you have other numbers in your repertoire?
I am a girl of many talents. I call my shows Burlesque from the Darkside. I love the glamour and graceful movement of classic showgirls in older burlesque but I am a night creature and am drawn to the darkside of life, so my costumes always reflect something a little evil and my music is usually goth rock or metal. My shows include fire-eating/contact, candlewax, knives, aerial hoop and chain trapeze.
6) Do you have plan to expend your exposure on the Internet? Why isn’t there an official website yet? :D
I had an official website a few years ago and had an unfortunate go of it with a shady webmaster and an even shadier web hosting service, beware of Powweb.com! I lost my domain name and still can't get it back. I have been dealing with that for years but mostly I don't have time to get one going. It is becoming higher on the priority list but for now I'm doing fairly well with having all my smaller profiles and networking sites.
7) Someone described you as "The Janice Dickinson of Heavy Metal"? Now, what can this really mean…? LOL And why is music so important in your career/leisure time?
I love Janis Dickinson so when someone left that message for me I loved it. I think it's because Janice Dickinson claims to be the first supermodel and I am the first heavy metal model. I love metal music and I love the imagery it conjures. I have been surrounded by metal culture from a very young age. It is a huge part of who I am and it would be strange not to encorporate metal and dark music into my career.
8) Is there actually an active fetish scene in Alberta?
It's small and there are very few events but we are a fairly close knit bunch so we all know each other which is nice. I hope it grows but Alberta is still very behind in many ways. Edmonton is a big city with a small town mentality. I hope that I can invite more locals into the world of fetish through my performances.
9) Sitting before our computer screen and dutifully studying your pics (!)… well, it’s logical to think that at some point, you should be involved in movie work, right? Would you be interested reading scripts and what kind of parts would you have a soft spot for?
I have done a few fetish films earlier in my career and recently I have been behind the camera a few times for projects that I don't know the release dates for. I don't mind film but I like performance and modelling much better. I like being filmed for fetish sequences just being sexy and playing but I haven't really caught the acting bug.
10) Is there a thin line between your personality as a model and real life? Do you "play" a lot in your private time?
I think my stage and modeling persona is just an amplified version of myself. I do the things I do because I love them so I do them in my private life as well. I just went to a party this past weekend where I was bound and gagged to a bondage cross nude and beaten by various people. It was great fun.
11) Aaargh! Will you really come to this year’s Fetish Weekend in Montreal? What do you expect for this probable visit?
I am really hoping to be a part of Fetish Weekend but it is still in the planning stages. It's looking like I may be able to bring a great show though so keep updated on my other sites for news about that. I have never been to Fetish Weekend or even Montreal and I have always wanted to visit. I have a feeling I'm going to fall in love with the city immediately.
