We welcomed Dominae Drakonis at our Vampires project some time back, but she's so fascinating that we just had to greet her again in another space where she belongs, the Fetish site of course!
1) Can you tell us where your interest for all things fetish comes from?
I've always been a very sensual woman. I discovered my taste for fetish and Domination when I was reunited with an old boyfriend who had just discovered his interest in BdSm. We began experimenting and I soon found that I had a knack for Domination and control - much to his delight.
2) What were your main inspirations when you started being active on the BDSM scene?
What really inspired me was the poise, elegance and regal nature that the Dommes possessed. I tend to play in a way that gains respect simply from the way that I carry myself and not by being a "bully." I am both a Pro and a Lifestyle Domme, but I was assumed to be a Pro Domme long before I actually became one. I remember friends bringing others to me for my approval. I was always the one to make all of the decisions and I've always had great respect. Becoming a Pro Domme just sort of happened naturally for me.
3) Now can you tell us a bit about why and when you’ve become fascinated by vampires… and decided to become one yourself?
Honestly, while I am an avid horror freak, I was never really fascinated with vampires. Even now I rarely watch a vampire movie. I am a vampire and it wasn't choice of mine to become one. It was a very interesting experience, but one that is way too long to go into here. Perhaps another time. It wasn't until years after I had become a vampire that I found others in the vampire community and decided to make myself known. I will say that it is very much part of who I am and has much to do with my spirituality, empathy and ability to connect to others. I am a psi and sanguine vampire, but am extremely choosy and very safe when it comes to feeding.
4) What is in your view the worst misconception that the general public still holds against the fetish/BDSM scene? What would be the best way to teach people?
There are so many misconceptions: that we're evil, that we are constantly in leather or pvc carrying whips, that our only enjoyment comes from inflicting and receiving pain. But I guess the worst misconception is that we're not like everyone else. The truth is that BDSM and fetish is such a vast realm and almost everyone has some sort of fetish or kink. We're like everyone else because we ARE everyone else. It's just that some of us make it more known than others.
I feel that the best way to teach people is simply to put yourself out there and let yourself be known. I know that a lot of people aren't comfortable with that and it is a frightening experience. But I did put myself out there on national television and let everyone know that I am a rational, intelligent and compassionate woman and mother who also is a Dominatrix. Yes, I was scared. But I'll say now that some wonderful things came from it. I got so many e-mails from those in the BDSM community and from "vanillas" thanking me. And... I got some couples who wrote me to tell me that they're no longer afraid to explore their fantasies.
I feel that the situation in the BDSM community can be compared to that of the gay/lesbian/Bi/Transgender community. Look at what they had to go through and are still going through in order to be accepted. I'm sure that coming out for them was no easier than it is for us. But if they didn't, there wouldn't be this wonderful push to have them legally marry or to remove the "don't ask, don't tell" rule from our armed forces. I have much respect for them and for those in the BDSM community who face their fears and let themselves out of the dungeon.
5) What can you tell us about your graphic designer skills? What kind of projects do you priorize?
I've been a graphic designer for about 15 years now. I've worked for a couple of major newspapers and have had my own design business called Afterglow Designs. I do everything from photo retouching to book covers and brochures, ad design, cd covers, business cards, banners, web graphics, etc. Of course I'm kink friendly so anyone interested can e-mail me at afterglowdes@yahoo.com.
6) So how does your lecturing work go? Which topics do you usually cover?
I lecture on True Vampirism and Dark Supernatural Roleplay. I lecture at BdSm and Spiritual events and gatherings and absolutely love it. I suppose I could lecture on other topics since I have many areas of expertise but there are so many others who are covering other topics and doing a wonderful job. I feel I have something special to offer the community when I lecture on Vampirism as it's something that the community hasn't seen covered often. I have a great time lecturing and the groups I get to visit seem to enjoy it very much. I'm currently setting up my schedule for this year and I get to do a little more traveling this time. Anyone interested in having me lecture may e-mail me at msdominae@yahoo.com.
7) What is your personal style as a Domina? What is the key to a real & fruitful relationship with a Mistress?
I am quite sensual and commanding. I Dominate with a soft but firm voice and a wonderfully wicked laugh when it comes to sadistic acts. I am quite sadistic but get the most satisfaction when I know that those I am playing with are enjoying the pain. I am very physically powerful and I think that surprises most people since I am also quite caring and motherly. I like for those who serve me to treat me with utter respect, servitude and desire to please me.
As for appearance I enjoy everything from long gowns to lingerie to complete leather or pvc attire. I am versatile. But the one thing that is always the same is my love to play and Dominate. Those who serve me know how much I am enjoying myself and therefore get even more pleasure from the experience.
Your second question is quite easy. The key to a fruitful relationship with a Mistress is to simply be honest, let your limits be known and make sure that there is a real trust between you both. The result of having a Mistress is that she makes you become more than what you were without her. For me, Domination is about building, not about breaking.
8) We’re always glad to meet someone who’s a fan of Coffin Joe (José Mojica Marins). Do you have any favorite film of his?
I love that you asked this question. I am a huge Coffin Joe fan! For those who don't know of his films I highly recommend them. Coffin Joe is evil in a level that we just don't see anymore. His films are very low budget and quite corny - but you can't help but root for a guy who wears a cape, top hat, has wickedly long nails and just doesn't give a crap about any rules, religion or morals. He tortures women in such wonderful ways. My favorites are At midnight I'll take your soul and Tonight I will possess your corpse. He did a new one recently that I also thought was great called Embodiment of Evil.
9) About your library of occult books, if you could only share with us three main titles, what would they be?
I have such a large collection that it's difficult to choose just three. One that I do enjoy quite often is "The Golden Ass" also known as "The Metamorphosis of Apuleius." I also refer to "The Golden Bough" quite often and "Aradia, The Gospell of the Witches." The oldest book in My library is called "Cheiro's Language of the Hand." It is about the first well known palm reader and where the word Cheiromancy comes from. The book was published in 1895.
10) Can we have some details about you whipping a police officer at CBGB? Sounds incredibly interesting!
I used to perform with a well known punk rock group at CBGB. The shows were outrageous and a lot of fun. Let's just say that you never know who's going to be at the other end of My whip. I don't want to get anyone in trouble so I can't say anything more about it.
11) Soooo… Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee?
I'll have to go with Bela. Christopher Lee is great but I just never found him to be as sexy as Bela Lugosi. And as you know, vampires are always better when they're sexually alluring.
12) Of course we must conclude in asking when are you going to visit us in Montreal & bite all these lovely French necks?
I've never been to Montreal, but I'd be happy to come for a visit. Of course, I'll need you all to invite Me over first...
