Dita is a very unique personality with a very distinctive style... we were quite fascinated by her experience as a sideshow performer. Read on:
1) So what gave you an interest for alternative photography?
When I was young, my father played Type O Negative to my brother and I. My sexual and artistic infatuation with gothic culture began there. I was not just satisfied with making art: I had to be it.
2) You must be interested in film work, down the line? What would be the perfect part for yourself?
Honestly, I have had a few offers to do film. Nothing really peaked my interest. Most were just common plots. If I don't feel that a film is going somewhere, then I won't waste my time on it. The perfect part for me would be a fierce lady, such as Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.
3) You mention being a sideshow performer, escape artist and magician’s assistant. Could you elaborate a bit on what kind of duties are involved?
I started performing in February 2005 right after Super Bowl Sunday. I met Steve Hyde (magician) through my father. They were old friends in High School. He saw me at my father's Super Bowl party and asked me to be his assistant. He has had 10 assistants total throughout his carreer of over 35 years of magic. We do birthday parties, country clubs, mall functions, promotions, walk arounds, stage shows for amusement parks and fairs, and conventions. We have been on the cover of newspapers and magazines for our local performances and conventions.
We really took off about two years ago when we attended the 2007 Inkin' the Valley Sideshow Convention. We were offered a spot on stage to perform our act and are now part of the sideshow family. Our act includes the arrow through head chest, sword through neck, crank around head, sword basket, arm disector, chair suspension, drill-saw in half, razor blades on string out of mouth, and much much more! We will be on the cover of the May 2009 Escape Master's Magazine and attending this year's sideshow gathering in Wilkes Barre, PA.
4) All-time favorite movie A Clockwork Orange, eh? Why this particular choice?
Ever since I saw that movie, I have been in love with it. From its complexity to its humor, I can not watch that movie enough. It shows how the world would be without much morality. The design is pure genius.
5) Can you share more on your views and experiences regarding the "Super Skinny Models"?
I think it is funny how people confuse runway with photographic modeling. It is not the same thing. I believe that super skinny models have every right to be out there in the public, but I'am also strongly against pushing irrational ideals into people's minds. Eating disorders are deadly and all too common. I am a believer that as long as the picture is beautiful, then who cares how thin the model is?
6) Do you hang out at fetish parties? Can you describe if there’s an active community in your area?
I have been invited to a lot of Fixe Magazine's fetish parties, but my boyfriend does not like the idea of it. I will attend one day. I am only 19 after all and have much time to explore these things. :)
7) Is there a thin line between your modeling personality and your own private life? Do you like to "play out" in your intimate relationships?
I believe that Dita Synthetic is very graceful, dominant, and has a kind of innocent sexuality. I am all of these things, but to only a certain extent. I enjoy nature a lot, which is not at all synthetic. I like to play out in my intimate relationships, but not in excess. I like sex a lot and that shows in every characher I play.
8) If you would have to become a spokesperson to a cause / product / whatever, what would be the ideal theme for you? (hum, this reads like a Miss America Pageant question, but we think you know what we mean!)
Probably Two Wizards or Gore Couture.
