We were delighted to make such a discovery: a gorgeous pin-up model that lives not that far from us! And Daria is also exceptionally nice! A collaboration could be possible in the near future...
Can you share with us a bit about your background and any info about your ethnic heritage?
My background is something that always seems to come up in conversation as most cannot seem to tell what it is. I am a 50/50 mix as my father is purely British and my mother is Nigerian.
When did you discover your interest in alternative or even pin-up photography?
While I've always been interested in arts and the creative side of life, my interest really peaked in high school. I had a lot of friends who were into photography when I was younger and I always would offer to model for them. However as far as the alternative/pin-up side of things goes... as far as I can think back I've always been a bit different. All throughout grade school I was always the one in the crowd wearing studded bracelets and dark make-up. I even got called a racoon by a teacher once for how much black eye make-up I had on. Then in high school I suppose I discovered pin-up and fell in love with alternative pin-up and ditched a teenie bit of my darker side.
Is there a thin line between your modeling personality and your own private life?
I would say there is hardly any line at all. I love to have fun and try new things and I think that comes across in a lot of my pin-up photos. However I do have a more serious side that comes out in some of the heavier alternative stuff I've shot.
Do you have many piercings and tattoos? Any more planned for the future?
Yes, I have a few tattoos and piercings currently. Currently I have wrist tattoos that read 'Stay True', some script across my ribs on the right side, and imagery as well as Shakespeare quotes wrapped around my ankles/calves. As far as piercings go - I have my lobes stretched to an inch, both sides of my lip, my septum and tongue. Certainly my tattoo collection will continue to grow as tattoos are a huge interest of mine.
Which kind of visual themes pleases you more to work on? Would you be intrigued to do basic fetish shoots (latex, leather, rubber, etc.) at some future point? How about a bondage shoot?
I am a very big planner. I tend to like to orchestrate everything in my shoots from clothing, to hair and make-up, right down to my nails... you could say I'm a bit of a control freak. :) So theme-wise, I love to coordinate pin-up style shoots. I am also finding myself wanting to do more and more alternative latex, leather, rubber shoots. While I am not hugely into bondage, I do love a lot of the fashion that is associated with fetish modelling and that is something I'd like to further pursue.
The only other high profile Daria we know is Daria Nicolodi, ex-wife of horror director Dario Argento. Are you a horror film fan, by any chance?
While I have never heard of Daria Nicolodi, I do know of another high-profile Daria, named Daria Werbowy. She is a Ukrainian high fashion model. I am a huge fan of hers. However I am a horror film fan. I am more into the classic gorey stuff than the paranormal type movies. Favourite horror movie would have to be American Psycho. I also really liked the Saw series.
So... is there a big photo scene in Oshawa, Ontario?
Well, not particularly. There are a few super local photographers and designers I work with directly out of Oshawa but most of my shoots take place in Toronto. Oshawa is only about a 40 minute drive from Toronto so a lot of my time is spent in the city.
Do you think there's a big difference between what you think makes you sexy compared to what your fans think makes you sexy?
I would imagine so. I couldn't even tell you what makes me ‘sexy'. I love to dress up and get all done up. I find doing my make-up and hair everyday part of my creative process. Maybe that's what makes me ‘sexy'? Or maybe it's my natural features and personality? A bit of both? Like I said, I couldn't tell you.
OK now what is your biggest fashion weakness... corsets? towering platform shoes? or any other?
Oh gee! What a question. I am going to have to go with the cliché option of shoes. I have a vast shoe collection currently that ranges between 25-30 pairs of heels, 15 pairs of sandals and sneakers, and about 10 pairs of boots. One of my goals in life was to own 30 pairs of shoes by the time I turn 21 (materialistic, I know) and I am already well over that goal!!
Where do you see yourself career-wise in say... five or even ten years from now? Are you a long-term planner or do you just go with it day by day?
While planning is one of my strong suits, I am not quite sure what I'll be doing 5-10 years from now. I am currently a marketing student as well as a model so hopefully I'll wind up somewhere that allows me to have a happy balance between a marketing career and a modeling career that allow me to travel. I love travelling. I would also like to own 2 Dobermans in that time span. I love dogs and owning 2 has been a goal of mine for a long time.
We noticed that there's not an official website yet... hmmmm! Do you have any plans to conquer virtual space soon?
While I have no formal website currently, one is definitely to be 'in the works' soon. I wouldn't say I am totally off the radar in the virtual scene though. I can be found at various other places on the web, as you can see from the list at the top of this page.
What would it take to have you come here in Montreal and work with us?
Not much. I mean that is something that is totally in the cards. I am not too far outside of Montreal and visiting there is something I would certainly like to do... sooner than later if possible.
