Cupcake's style is so very different and colorful than the other Sirens that we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to include her in our guest list!
1) So when did you become interested in the world of alternative modeling?
I think it was a few years ago when I really started to combine my love of fashion and art together. I've always been a fan of photography and the modeling industry, but despite admiring many well-known designers, I knew that if I was to take up modeling, the mainstream route would not be for me. Alternative modeling is much more appealling and exciting.
2) Would you say that you were a very imaginative child? What inspired you most as a kid?
I was always doing something imaginative as a child, always trying to be part of other worlds. Even today I try to be as creative and imaginative as possible, simply because it makes life more interesting and fun. Some people don't always understand the way I am but I'm living how I want to and it makes me happy. I was very into acting and dancing as a child so I think that's where my love of outrageous costumes comes from. I was also introduced to japanese cartoons such as Pokemon and Sailor Moon, so my love of Japanese culture really started there.
3) Tell us a bit about your current studies: how is this helping out in your modeling career plans?
I am currently studying Creative and Professional Writing and English at University and although from first glance that sounds a long way a way from modeling, it is actually helping to keep me in a creative mood 24/7. I did a foundation degree in Fashion the year before I started University, which some might think would coincide more with modeling, but that course took up a lot of my time and if was to continue it at degree level I don't think I would have any time to model the outfits I made. I love writing and it is very helpful when coming up with new ideas and concepts for modeling.
4) How hard is it for you to come up with all these colorful characters that you portray?
Every day I think of new and more exciting ideas for characters I want to portray. I could never model the one style because I have too many ideas and I love combining styles to create something new. Modeling for me is another way of letting people inside my imagination, which I know is never dull!
5) From where does the name Cupcake come from and why did you adopt it?
I think the name originally came from my obsessive love of cupcakes and generally anything sugary and sweet. My friends began to call me Cupcake and I chose it for my Modeling alias.
6) What is your view on tattoos and piercings? Are you planning to get more in the future?
I love tattoos and piercings. I love getting them done and I love how they look. I do have my favourites and some I would never consider but I definitely want more of both.
7) Does the world of fetish hold any appeal to you? Would you try out latex, rubber or leather outfits, for example?
I have been a huge fan of the fetish world for a while now. When I first came across it, I was intrigued by how unusual it all was. I am an avid researcher so ofcourse I looked into the world in greater detail and have admired it ever since. I do want to try out some latex and rubber outfits. They always look incredible and I have a few ideas which will involve that type of clothing. So hopefully in the near future I will be able to make those ideas reality.
8) Is there comic book or manga character that you would like to portray?
There are several I would love to cosplay but the main two would have to be Ryomou Shimei of 'Ikki Tousen' (Battle Vixens), and Moka Akashiya of 'Rosario+Vampire'. Both are highly independent characters and they always look sexy even if they don't try to be. So I definitely want to model as both in the future.
9) For someone who admits to sometimes be shy, you have close to 4000 friends on MySpace! Would you say that you have made great contacts through the internet or are the weirdos still taking over?
When it comes to communicating online I'm not as shy as I can be in real life. I don't think anyone is, to be honest. I tend to add people that are interesting or inspire me in some way and of course the people that are interested in what I do and how I live. I'm a big fan of promoting other artists, whether they be musicians, painters, designers, models, etc. because art in any form has always been very important to me. Usually the weirder the better!
There are certain people that I don't add and really don't have the time for. Saying this I have made many great contacts, including some friends I have in real life now and especially photgraphers. The internet is always a great way to advertise yourself and get in contact with people that can help you along the way.
10) Probably besides the big boots, what constitutes your fashion weakness (dresses, gloves, stockings…)?
I think cute backpacks and knee socks are a big weakness for me right now. I have always loved how the Japanese women wear knee socks and I think I actually do have a pair for every occasion. They're very versatile because depending how you wear them, they can be super cute or very sexy.
11) What fascinates you most from Japanese pop culture?
I love how insanely creative they are. Particularly my generation. Whether it's food or fashion they know how to take things to another level and that is what my life is about. I'm a very visual person so anything that stands out from the mass is appealing to me, and you can't really avoid it in Japanese culture.
12) Any plans to come to Canada and maybe meet some of these 4000 fans…?
I would love to visit Canada along with other countries such as Japan and Russia. Probably not in the immediate future, but once my studies are finished I definitely want to travel a bit.
