Miss Bea Rock is so very convincing as a vintage pin-up with a modern twist... or is it the other way around?
1) Can you share with us a bit about your background?
I'm the eldest of three Rock sisters hailing from slightly upstate NY. Once upon a time I went to college for medical laboratory technology but I'd rather hang around in my panties cooking new recipes. I have a hound doggie named Spark Plug and we love babies and sunshine and lazy days off.
2) When did you realize that alternative/pin-up photography was the main thing for yourself?
I've always admired the style. I was getting over a really stressful loss and decided to book with one of my favorites, Varga Photography, during their 2008 tour. On the three plus hour trip home from the shoot, lipstick stains on my coffee cup and watching for highway exits through long sultry false lashes, I kept wondering how I'd ever lived without it.
3) What would you say is your single favorite piece of clothing that you own? Only once choice, now!
My skin!
4) Do you usually do your own makeup? Is it more fun to apply to others or on yourself?
I do my own makeup. It's more fun to do other people's makeup though because of their reaction to seeing themselves all dolled up. It empowers them to look and feel sexy, and gives me lots of variety!
5) Do you have many piercings and/or tattoos? Any more planned for the future?
My ears are done, nothing secret pierced. I have tattoos of swallows, an anchor, angel wings, a ring pop, an atom, and "No. 7" . I have countless others planned including a portrait of my recently passed great grandmother Lily and an owl piece based off the Goldenbook "Color Kittens". I'm totally hooked!
6) Can you claim that there’s a thin line between your private life and your modeling activities?
I like to look nice all the time but I work for a big corporation where I can't even show my tattoos! My man build hot rods for a living so some of the lines blur but I try to keep the worlds separate because my modeling benefits from me getting into character. It's a form of performance.
7) We saw some pics of you happily & nakedly pregnant… what can you tell us about this addition to your family and has your views on your modeling changed since having a child?
My sweet angel DeAngelo was born on Halloween 2010! He has been exposed to everything we can safely share with him from mama's magazines and daddy's music videos to catching a Catnap in "his" 1953 Chevy! I hope my modeling doesn't embarrass him because I'm gonna keep doing it. The whole experience of pregnancy, birth and recovery has allowed me to understand my body on a huge new level. It felt a little like driving someone else's car for quite a time but you just feel unstoppable.
8) So how fun was it to make that shoot with the angle grinder? Have you done other video stuff?
Sparks are an interesting prop to work with but Bill Tracy (the photographer) is always a blast. I couldn't really see or hear anything with the grinder but the film was rolling away and he got some great stuff! I did a music video for a New York band called the Armed Suspects with Minnie dMoocha and Devil Kitten, it was cold out but we had a good time shooting with those guys!
9) What in your estimate is the best quality that a photographer can have when working on a shoot?
Talent of course! And I don't think that the word is interchangeable with more experience. I think a good photographer has to think like a makeup artist and a model and retoucher all at once.
10) Would you be up to do some stuff involving bondage, or even wearing fetish fabrics like latex or rubber? Or is there a line that you won’t cross?
Every time I see Mona deLux in Scarlett Bliss, I want to LIVE in latex! I have been tied up and gagged by Varga at a shoot, I would be into that again on the right set. I will not do foot stuff, I just hate feet!
11) What are your favorite activities when it’s time to relax?
Sipping dry red wine on a freshly laundered bed or taking the babe and dog to the water.
12) Do you have the chance to travel a lot? NY State is not that far from our home base in Montreal, you know…
Not at the moment but you'll be the first to know!!
