The first time I ever saw a performance by Vena’s Evil Dolls was at the Hollywood Bondage Ball about a year ago. Living in Los Angeles, one easily gets spoiled with the numerous fetish themed clubs and their stage shows. But what set the Evil Dolls apart from other acts was that their show mixed equal parts sexy performance, with a little tongue in cheek humor to create a really entertaining show which had an underlying message that didn’t hit me until several days later. Of course it doesn’t help that the troupe is made up of sexy and intelligent ladies, who are sometimes joined by a very hot “Boy Doll”.

As the name states, the Evil Dolls are led by Vena the fetish model and event promoter, as well as my friend of many years. I first met Vena years ago when she was just one of the popular figures at the local goth and fetish clubs. It still seems awkward for me to think that she’s become internationally known and adored because she’ll always be my friend first and foremost, and international fetish personality second.

The Evil Dolls website introduces each doll with a brief interview. There’s self proclaimed “nerd doll” Rachel Ravage, a ravishing brunette with a smile that has mischief written across her face. Then there’s the sultry Snow Mercy with porcelain smooth skin and doll-like features. Noir Halo looks like she just stepped out of the pages of Playboy with her flowing blond hair, quite the contrast against the morbidly sexy Meaghan Monster who strangely leaves me with fantasies about necrophilia. And speaking of fantasies, I couldn’t keep my eyes off Cassandra, the “girl next door” brunette, who also happens to work at a local dungeon. Vena is quick to add that interviews with the other dolls Xochitl and Alecia are forthcoming. Among this group, I am told, is a university professor, a full time mom, a clothing designer, a law professional, and a special effects whiz. I’d certainly prefer to be stuck on a deserted island while on a three hour cruise with this group of ladies.

When asked how the group was formed, Vena answers “The Dolls found me... I simply said ‘Let's form a group’". With this high level of diversity, I can only imagine what their rehearsals must be like. “We’re always striving for a less obvious message” adds Vena. Perhaps this explains the deeper thought that goes into a performance by Vena’s Evil Dolls. This was certainly evident when I saw their first show involving dolls that come to life. “Karma!” Vena instantly says when I describe it. “That’s the one of the little girls who abuse their dolls. It’s the classic ‘Cry Wolf’ storyline mixed in with our childhood fears”.

In addition to that show, the Dolls have also performed other shows at the Hollywood Bondage Ball such as the Paris Hilton show, and the Circus Animal Show. They’ve also performed the Pillowfight at Sexopolis, and the Weather Girl Auditions at Skin Two Exotica Detroit; each time in front of hundreds or thousands of appreciating fans. Companies have also taken notice of this and chosen to market themselves through this high profile group. Vena is quick to list past sponsors Osi’s Vinyl Dolls, Déjà vu Love Boutique, and Femskin.

Whatever your preference in watching a Vena’s Evil Dolls show, whether a social commentary, a light hearted poke at our fetish world, or just to watch some sexy girls molest on each other, there’s never a shortage of entertainment. Brains and Beauty, that’s how I describe Vena’s Evil Dolls.
