In November 2008, the American Midwest again became an oasis of latex and kink with Skin Two Exotica Detroit 4. The brainchild of fetish model Vena and talent agent Chaos, Exotica has quickly risen to be one of the top fetish events in the United States, drawing an attendance from all over North America, as well as Europe.
Kicking off the weekend with a late-night latex pool party Thursday night and a star-studded meet and greet Friday afternoon, Exotica boasted an impressive Who's Who list of world-renowned fetish models, performers, and photographers. The VIP list included We Are Latex and fetish models Vena, Emily Marilyn, Angela Ryan, Kerri Taylor, Noir Halo, Anyssa, Aradia Ardor, London Shadows, Evelyn Rose, Vivian Ireene Pierce, Mistress Persephone, Phobia, and myself, Nicotine. Attending photographers included Skin Two editor and event host Tim Woodward, Steve Diet Goedde, Peter (from the UK’s The Fetish Saloon), Eric Cain, DVS, Perry Gallagher, Big Lew, and Larry Bradby.

Clutch Cargo's, a converted church, now concert hall, housed the one-thousand-square-foot dungeon play area and 3 days of workshops by Don Sir, Nawa G and Lil J, Charley B, Aradia Ardor, Steve Diet Goedde, and many more well known instructors. Dozens of clothing, adult toy, art, and erotica vendors covered the lower level of the venue. The Friday night fashion show marked the launch of fetish couture label Hilary's Vanity, as well as Frenchy LaRue latex and House of Bias latex (all new, up and coming American designers). Noir Leather (for Vex Latex), NooMoon Wear, and Leather Realm also showed off their new collections.

Saturday marked two deliciously sexy fashion shows by GirdleBound and Grey Gargoyle during the day, which proved to be quite distracting to the hundreds of vending area patrons at Clutch Cargo's. The Saturday night Skin Two Ball at the nearby Crowfoot Ballroom was absolutely dazzling and featured performances by Acid Rain and Vena's Evil Dolls on the main stage, as well as performances by Evelyn Rose, Miss PussyKat Burlesque, and Chaos Productions in the cozy VIP lounge, upstairs. DJs London Shadows, Xris SMack!, and Curse Mackey (My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult) kept the dance floor alive and pumping the entire night. The upstairs balcony also hosted an impressive playspace filled with spanking benches and St Andrew's crosses, which were quickly put to good use by the attendees.

As with the previous three Exoticas, the nightly afterparties were definitely where many of Exotica's legends are made and the Courtyard Marriot staff was no doubt scandalized by the nightly pool parties. It was with heavy hearts that we all bid each other goodbye on the last day. While it might not return to Michigan in the future, there is no doubt that we have not seen the last of Exotica.
