We welcome a young British model to our pages who will without a doubt leave her mark in the months to come...
1) Can you share a bit with us some info about your background?
I can indeed; I was brought up in Cornwall, in Southwest UK. I lived on the coast until I moved away from university, and it was a great source of inspiration for me as I am fairly arty. When I'm not modeling, I like to draw, paint and write. Music is my primary passion though; listening to or playing, but most of all, I'm happiest when I sing. At the moment I am on a Music Technology degree which is very different for me as I'm from a classical background ... but it makes a refreshing change.
2) What ever made you decide to try modeling?
Sheer curiosity. I joined a group on Facebook and met a lot of plus size models on them, some much larger than myself but still looking amazingly gorgeous. I asked them how they did it and the rest as they say is history!
3) Why did you choose Aedyn Acanthus as your modeling name?
Well, I was originally Acanthus. It was a name that appealed to me that I'd seen somewhere, and it seemed to fit. However, it also seemed to be quite commonly used for companies and other models, and a Google search only confirmed it! So, came the addition of Aedyn, which I "dreamt up", so to speak. Hence ... Aedyn Acanthus I was.
4) We noticed that you’re in the process of losing weight… do you have a definitive goal?
I was hell bent on a certain weight, but now I'm not so sure. I have seemed to have plateau'd at my current weight, and I found I was getting frustrated when the scales didn't shift. I am focusing on muscle tone now; increased exercise as well as the same food diet, and I will see where it goes from there. Either way, I have lost 4 stone so far and I am very proud of it.
5) Are you really an opera singer? What known work did you ever perform?
I am indeed! Over the past year in particular I have been focusing in on Dido and Aenas - an opera by Purcell - but other than that, I sing songs from all over the eras. In May, I will be performing a motet by Vivaldi with an orchestra in my hometown, and I'm really excited about it. I am also studying with a well-known baritone towards a diploma in singing - after that, I will be qualified to teach singing to others, which is at least one rung on the ladder closer to where I want to be professionally. That is, teaching music in all aspects, and carrying on with my singing. Sounds like a dream, if you ask me.
6) So you were a beauty queen, eh? Besides the title, do you get to win anything? :P
A shiny trophy! Haha ... I had a float for carnival processions, 2 attendants, a prince and princess and we would visit all over Cornwall. Other than that, it was prize giving and cheque giving for publicity. At 14, I was pretty happy with that. :)
7) Do you consider that there are more and more curvy models doing quality work these days?
Yes, and I love it! It's great that models such as Crystal Renn and Chloe Marshall are raising up the flag for beautiful, curvy women. I especially love what Mark Fast has done recently, sending size 14s down the catwalk. Debenhams in London is even featuring mannequins up to a size 16! I don't believe in slogans like "bigger is better" or "real women have curves", because everyone is built differently. It's about time fashion caught up with the rest of us and realised that the best thing to do is to advocate the natural figures of their consumers, not just one that's virtually unattainable by most.
8) Is there any interest on your part to explore fetish wear in upcoming photo work (leather, rubber, PVC, latex, > etc.)
Definitely, definitely! My wardrobe is - let's say - limited, at the moment. Once I can afford it, I would love to own a steel-boned leather corset, and some quality PVC wear, and perhaps going down a more cybergoth route with that. That's for a start, at least. Expect more to come with that. ;)
9) What will be the advantages of you becoming a Perfect Storm model?
Well, I'm actually already a PS model and have been for a while, but I have found Halo and Rozzie (the owners) to be instrumental in helping me set up my first few shoots, and helping me grow and improve. The agency will be going pro soon and I am proud to be joining them for the ride.
10) Do you actually find time to relax? What are your favorite things to do when you’re not on any assignments?
Good question! Well, as I've said, I love writing, art and music. Music as work AND play; is that bad? I'm the sort of person that both works and plays hard. So the same person that was up at 7am for a shoot, into college at 11pm and at a singing lesson at 3pm might be out in the night dancing until 3am! I also practice taekwon-do; and I kick ass!
11) Any chance of you coming to Montreal one of these days? :D
I'd love to! I've never been across the pond, so to speak, but I'll keep you posted! :D
